In a significant move to bolster its position in the premium electric vehicle segment, BYD India has launched the updated 2025 iteration of its popular Seal electric sedan. The refresh, announced in late April 2025, focuses on enhancing ride comfort and cabin experience with the introduction of an advanced adaptive suspension system on the top variant and several new convenience features across the range. The update comes with a marginal price increase of ₹15,000 for the mid and top-tier variants, signaling BYD's confidence in the Seal's value proposition.
The most substantial upgrade is the introduction of sophisticated suspension technology. The mid-spec 'Premium' rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant now comes equipped with Frequency Selective Dampers (FSD), a feature previously exclusive to the top 'Performance' all-wheel-drive (AWD) model. This technology allows the suspension to passively adjust its damping force based on the frequency of road vibrations, providing a plusher ride over uneven surfaces while maintaining stability at higher speeds.
Taking it a step further, the top-spec 'Performance' variant now boasts BYD's advanced DiSus-C (Intelligent Damping Control System). This is a fully adaptive suspension system that uses real-time sensor data to actively soften or firm up the dampers. According to BYD, this allows the car to deliver a gliding ride on bumpy roads and simultaneously stiffen up during cornering, acceleration, or braking to minimize body roll and pitch, offering a superior balance of comfort and handling dynamics. This upgrade directly addresses feedback from some customers and reviewers who desired a more pliant ride quality, making the Seal an even more formidable competitor against rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.
Inside the cabin, BYD has addressed key usability aspects. A much-requested feature, wireless connectivity for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, is now standard across all variants, eliminating the need for a cable. Another significant addition for the Indian climate is a new powered sunshade for the panoramic glass roof. Previously, an aftermarket sunshade was offered as an accessory, but this integrated, powered solution provides a more elegant and effective way to prevent the cabin from heating up under the harsh sun. Furthermore, the air-conditioning system has been upgraded with a larger compressor and a new air purification unit for enhanced cooling and air quality.
A subtle but important mechanical change is the replacement of the conventional low-voltage lead-acid auxiliary battery with a modern Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) unit. BYD claims this new battery is six times lighter and boasts a lifespan of up to 15 years, improving long-term reliability and reducing weight.
The pricing for the 2025 BYD Seal starts at ₹41 lakh for the base 'Dynamic' variant, which remains unchanged. The 'Premium' variant is now priced at ₹45.70 lakh, and the top-end 'Performance' variant costs ₹53.15 lakh, both reflecting the ₹15,000 hike. With these targeted, meaningful upgrades, BYD has refined an already compelling package. The focus on ride comfort, particularly with the DiSus-C system, along with the added convenience features, strengthens the Seal's appeal as a technologically advanced and luxurious electric sedan that is keenly attuned to the demands of the Indian market.
